We English travellers just missed you. We arrived in Maggie Valley the morning after Hurricane Floyd and were absolutely dead tired after travelling from Charleston overnight. We stayed one night in a motel. After we left we discovered that we could have come to the Opry house and heard you play. Can you advise your records - banjo music (my father played in the 30's and I had a banjo-player in my Dixieland Band in the 50's. Too old now ! Regards Peter Young & Jean Young

Visited with You all a few months back. Me and my Wife really enjoyed the show. Your son Zane, was gracious enough to show me his custom made guitar. I cannot remember the name of it? But I was very impressed with it and the sound he got from it. He made two new fans that night with his talent and the way he took the time to answer my countless questions. A fine young man indeed. We are looking forward to our next trip back. Hello to Zane for us. Justin & Lorri Stallings Gary, Indiana

I always thought that the Banjo Contest was fair, I found out Sat.Oct 2nd that wasn't the truth. When a kid wins 3rd place and you can't understand what he's playing, somethings wrong. When another kid gets fan choice and doesn't place, somethings wrong. The funny thing is those judges would not know a real banjo player if it jumped up and kicked then in the head. Just 1 persons opinion!

Date:

Get over it It was fair and if a banjo kicked you in the ass you wouldnt know it bucket breath.

In reply to:"Just 1 persons opinion" First, I was there both nights, not as a contestant, but as an observer and I think the contest and judges were right on. Second, The judges DO NOT award The Fan’s Choice Award. The audience determines the winner of the Fan’s Choice by casting their vote on a ballot, which they receive when they buy their tickets. And third, a little advice, get the facts straight, know the rules, and stay out of the kitchen if you can’t take the heat! Jeff Sherman, TX

They give all there time and energy for this cause and 100% of ALL, not just a percentage, goes to the hospital. I have personally seen Raymond go out of his way to help anyone in need and I know for a fact he would give You the shirt off of his back. Great Site Raymond! I met your daughter-in-law, Tamara Fairchild, through the internet. It seams we had a mutual friend, Carole Muir, who had pancreatic cancer and passed away recently. Tamara visited my Pancreatitis Message Board (Support Group) and she and Carole Muir had colaborated on some material written as free lance writers. She can tell you about how we met on the internet. I also am an advisory board member of The Bill Monroe Foundation with Doc Mercer. I met you at the Grand Opening on Jerusalem Ridge back in 2001 with Frank Buchanan. Tony Ellis of the Dave Verny Band then, now performing with Tom Gray, Dave and others. It was a memorable moment in my life to meet you and Frank. Do you remember Frank and Tony Ellsi sitting out back and taliking about the hard times they had working for Bill Monroe - eating Vienna Wiennies..... Anyway, you have a great site and I will visit the Maggie Valley Opry House next time I am down that way. Gary Fry PO Box 86 Artemus, KY 40903

Caught Zane the other night sitting in with Tom Denny's Jazz trio and I was amazed at how good he is at playing that type of music. I enjoy seeing You play with Your Dad Zane, but You certainly have a future in Jazz Music if You choose to do so! Will see You soon. Pattie Romas

Hi Pattie, I was at the show You were talking about and I also agree with You that Zaine is fabulous. He is a bluegrass George Benson. His solo on Lady Be Good brought down the house and caused chill bumps on my arm, which is a very rare thing for any musician to do to me. Stay in Jazz music Zaine, thats where Your future lays. raymond; same old dallas burell that mixed up my fiddle with your banjo on some stages around back a few year's ago. if you remember, the faster you played um, the better i liked'um & nothing's changed on that except it's getting harder to find picker's that can cut the speed mustard now-days. dont get me wrong, i like'um all from grandma to lazer lightning speed & you do too & that's what makes the stage interesting to me. sure would like to be invited to your place some weekend if it suits you & we'll do it again. is frank buchanon & betty fisher still around?. I'M STILL PICKING MOST EVERY WK. IF YOU'RE THE SAME OLD RAYMOND, I FEEL LIKE I WILL HEAR BACK FROM YOU. SAY HELLO TO THE CROWE BOY'S.
